New England Aster
Aster novae-angliae
Sept. 26, 2010

The beautiful New England aster is a wonderful flower to behold.

The first photo shows an aster bud right before it opens into its purple and yellow self.

Hover flies look like but are not bees. However, hover flies are considered good bugs.

The aster flowers have attracted many different types of butterflies throughout September. Here's a monarch.

The New England aster grows to be about 3 to 7 feet high, and its flowers are about 2 inches across. They're beautiful! I wish I had some in my backyard.

Photo note: I used the Pentax K20D, with the Voigtlander 125mm macro lens, for these photos, taken during September 2010.
