Common Wood-Nymph (Cercyonis pegala) | August 17, 2014 |
Late July through August is definitely butterfly time, and I feel lucky to have photographed another new species for me: the common wood-nymph (Cercyonis pegala).
I had encountered one in the Toftrees game land earlier in July, but then I had a splendid opportunity when a wood-nymph visited my backyard. At first I used a long lens. |
Then the wood-nymph flew closer (to the petunias), and I switched to a macro lens. |
The final photo is something of an action shot, when I caught the wood-nymph with its wings open. |
I'm always pleased when I can have both above and under the wings views of a butterfly.
Photo note: I used the Pentax K20D, with the Sigma 150-500mm lens for the first photo and the SMC-A* 200mm macro lens for the second two photos, on July 20, 2014. |
