| Daytime Raccoon Encounter | Jan. 2, 2011 |
| |
Today was one of those rare encounters for Sue and me: a daylight sighting of a raccoon. |

	 |
| |
The raccoon materialized from the underbrush and then stared at us before continuing on its way. |

	 |
| |
Any interesting scents? And are those marks above its shoulder and body scars or grooming marks? |

	 |
| |
And the raccoon disappeared back into the underbrush. |

	 |
| |
Notice that the raccoon's ears were always pointing toward us, even as it was disappearing.
The encounter was a good way to start the new year.
Photo note: I used a Pentax K20D, with the SMC 1000mm reflex lens. Distance, then, wasn't a problem, but I wouldn't have minded if my focusing were more exact. What can I say? It was exciting. |
