Although far more ubiquitous than the Herdwick, the Swaledale
get around the fells very well. The one below was photographed
on top of Loughrigg in a valley that cuts through and provides
good wind protection.
The coloring can change markedly from Swaledale to Swaledale, but this stylish ewe with her black stockings is ready for any photojournalist. And the red-dye marking gives her that extra flair for the chance encounter.
