Common YellowthroatMay 25, 2008

The common yellowthroat is the first warbler that I could identify - after moving to State College. It's probably the first warbler that I had ever seen.

Of course, the yellowthroat is an impressive warbler, having a striking black mask (as well as a yellow throat).

Common yellowthroat
The common yellowthroat's song is a witchy-witchy-witchy; on the other hand, most warblers sound like that to me.

After his robust song, the common yellowthroat awaits the results: any attractive warblers around or did he drive off the competition? Or maybe he was posing for the photo?
Did I do it right?
  An immature common yellowthroat doesn't have a mask . . .

. . . although the young one has an eagle's worth of personality.

Photo note: I used a Pentax *ist D, with the SMC 1000mm reflex lens. The first three photos date from May 14, 2008, whereas the immature yellowthroat is from July 2007.
