BullfrogApril 2005

Toward of the end of the first week of April, many bullfrogs gathered around the edge of the Toftrees Pond. They were all very large and were very alert to any sounds, at which they would hop and splash away in every which direction.

I would guess that they were mostly females, since males are very territorial and don't tolerate competitors. In any case, the following pair looked very earnest while contemplating each other.

The following bullfrog appeared particularly happy in her (or his) part of the pond, which was surrounded by tall reeds.

Photography note: The photos were taken with a Pentax *istD and the SMC 400-600mm lens.
