Spicebush Swallowtail, Revisited Papilio troilus | Aug. 7, 2022 |
It has been nearly six years since I've last posted anything about the spicebush swallowtail (Papilio troilus), a large and beautiful butterfly.
But then nature sends subtle signals, reminding me what I should do. Hey, nothing like meeting a spicebush eye to eye. |
The main difference between a female and a male spicebush swallowtail is that the male spicebush (below) has an additional (if faint) upper row of dots on its front wing. |
My favorite view of the spicebush swallowtail is with its wings raised.

Talk about striking colors!
