Monarch and Caterpillar

  While I've presented monarch butterfly photos before, this is the first time I've ever come across a monarch caterpillar. It is as striking as an adult.

Monarch caterpillars dine on milkweed, which makes them highly undesirable to predators.

  And below is monarch is all his glory. The monarch males are identified by the black scent patch, seen as a small black oval on the hindwing (close to the body).

  Following is perhaps my favorite photo of a monarch, who is enjoying a little bit of thistle.
