Anticipating Snow Geese at Middle Creek | February 27, 2011 |
|
The present count of snow geese at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, Pennsylvania, is 60,000. The numbers could increase by half again or doubled in the next two weeks. My anticipation is which day to travel the hundred thirty miles there to see the spectacle.
Middle Creeks is the place to be to witness the snow goose staging point on the northern, spring migration, and the following photos are from last year (March 7, 2010) to give an idea of what it is like to be there.
One has clear view of individual snow geese.

But the true excitement at Middle Creek is to watch a swarm, or goose storm, in motion. The following photo is a swirl.

Ever see a solid wall of incoming geese?

Middle Creek is a wonder of the natural world.
Photo note: I used a Pentax K20D, with the SMC-DA 55-300mm lens, for these photos, taken on 7 March 2010. Following is a list of my photos and videos from Middle Creek 2009 and 2010. |
