Notes about Lookoutnow MiniGOLF
(original version)
NEWS (August 8, 2002)
I rewrote the earlier sampler versions to take into account a more condensed Flash writing style, leading to smaller-size games. Whereas the download version is smaller overall, the online version now includes the bonus hole (at the cost of 11K more than the original): it is still a fast download at 98K.
August 6, 2002: Finished and ready! 18 Holes Plus is now available for sale for $6 (via Paypal)! It has its own page of notes.
August 4, 2002: Testing of 18-Hole-Plus MiniGOLF has gone very well. I added a new screen (for the 10 best games), as well as a key shortcut list at the bottom of the play screen. Now if I can figure out the Paypal coding . . .
July 28, 2002: I've finished writing and then rewrote my 18-Hole-Plus MiniGOLF, which--after more testing--will be for sale online. Here is a preview of the game via some screenshots.
June 16, 2002: A few fast tweaks: A note that should one wham the ball off the course, pressing r will return it to the tee. A few wall-rebound improvements.
June 15, 2002: The standalone version is ready to be downloaded for PC and Mac!
FREE DOWNLOAD VERSION and ONLINE VERSION
For all intents and purposes, these two versions are the same (except the download includes the cool splash scene). The bonus hole, the about box, and the help box are included in both. At the game screen bottom is a list of the main keys.
Deleting the two game files (lookgolf.exe [PC] or lookgolf [Mac] and the readme), not to mention the zip (PC) or sit (Mac) file, will completely remove this game from your computer.
NOTES (Free and Online Versions)
- I changed the appearance of the first hole to take advantage of economy of scale. In the end, the difference saved only 300 bytes, but I feel the hole is more interesting.
- In rewriting, the speed arrows became too efficient. I tried to tone them down a little, but more so would have changed the game too much. On the bright side, sticky corners have been cut down to a minimum. A door can still partially trap a ball, and that's about it.
- The bonus hole is tough! For two players, two different balls are used (standard and purple), with a yellow X to mark the position of the first player (when it isn't that player's turn) and with a purple X to mark the position of the second player (when it isn't that player's turn).
- If you don't have Flash with a browser, here's a sequence of four screens from the game, with somes notes pertaining to each. The downloaded game is completely independent from any browser or plug-in.
- Deleting the two game files (lookgolf.exe and its readme), not to mention the zip file, will completely remove this game from your computer.
- The game has been written in Flash 5.
HINTS
- Each of the first six holes has the possibility of a hole in one; the bonus hole is another story entirely.
- In the extended game, a ball that bounces off a plant can go in either of two directions; it was a temptation to add that here, but it would have changed things too much. On the other hand, a ball going through a hole now maintains its speed. That will change life somewhat.
- An active door, opening and shutting, has different intervals. If you make a mistake and the ball bounces within a door, wait for the door to change position, and you’ll have a clear shot.
EXPERIENCES
- Each hole can be finished straightforwardly, but it’s easy to run a hole into double digits (I took a 27 on hole 4), so you can be playing with someone else and be far behind but still win by the last hole. Luck is a very definite factor.

- Thanks for trying out the game--and good luck!
