Dragonfly An Eastern Pondhawk Erythemis simplicicollis | July 31, 2011 |
One of the advantages of the web is the ability to identify what would have been next to impossible for me (that is, a green dragonfly). Thus here we have an eastern pondhawk (Erythemis simplicicollis), a modest-size dragonfly with a robust appetite. |
The female is the green pondhawk; the male eastern pondhawk is light blue. |
Pondhawks are voracious pest hunters, which makes them a great dragonfly to have around.
Photo note: Both photos were taken in the Toftrees game land on July 15, 2011. The first with the Pentax K20D and the Pentax SMC-DA 55-300mm lens and the second with the same camera and the Voigtlander 125mm macro lens. |
