A Summer of Hummingbird Moths

This has been a particularly good year for hummingbird moths (or hummingbird clearwings) to visit my backyard.

The first photo is typical of summer during July and August: Bright light makes for easy photography.

By September, sunlight in my backyard is at a minimum, but the lighting creates its own dramatic effect for a hummingbird moth, especially with the light that catches the hummingbird moth’s wings.

Admittedly, this looks more like an unworldly flower than a hummingbird moth and butterfly bush blossoms; nevertheless, I find it an attractive viewpoint.

September marks the end of the hummingbird moth season (for my backyard), and so I look forward to their returning next summer.
